Smart Car

Few Facts about your smart that you might not know:

  • There is a hook on the passenger side of the engine compartment carpeting used for holding the carpeting out of the way when looking at your engine.
  • If the turn signals flash 9 times rapidly when you are locking your doors with the keyfob, it is an indication that your keyfob battery is dying. (Instructions on how to replace the battery can be found in your Owner’s Manual.)
  • You cannot lock your doors from the outside by using the key hole in the door. This can only be used to unlock the door.
  • Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System light (TPMS light) will illuminate when there is a difference of 4 pounds of pressure in your tires. (See Helpful Videos on owners.smartusa.com for a more information on this topic.)
  • When you are down to your reserve fuel, the fuel gauge will begin to flash and the Instrument Cluster will start counting down from 1 gallon.
  • The contrast of your Instrument Cluster can be adjusted (5 settings available). (Instructions on how to adjust the contrast are available in the Owner’s Manual.)
  • If 3 lines (dashes) appear in your Instrument Cluster, this is an indication that your transmission must be reset. To do so, hold your foot on the brake pedal for approximately 45 seconds. You should hear the gears resetting.        A wrench symbol in the Instrument Cluster means it is time to return to your smart service center for routine maintenance.
  • If you use your keyfob to unlock your doors but do not open either door within 60 seconds, the doors will automatically relock themselves.
  • The doors of your vehicle will automatically lock once the vehicle has reached approximately 8 mph.
  • If your vehicle is equipped with automatic wipers, the rear wiper (if equipped) will automatically swipe once when Reverse (R) gear is selected (if the wipers are left in automatic mode).
  • You can lock your vehicle from the inside, prior to exiting—with the vehicle in Park (P), driver’s door open (passenger door must be closed), and key in the ignition, press the lock button on the center dash. The red light on the lock button will flash rapidly. When you remove the key from the ignition, the doors will lock.
  • The passenger side seat belt, if extended all the way, will ratchet back in order to secure a child safety seat.
  • Bulb replacement information is located in the back of the Owner’s Manual.
  • Your vehicle is equipped with a hill start assist (for more information, see Owner’s
